On his first trip to Chattogram as U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen reinforced commercial and economic cooperation and strengthened bilateral ties in meetings with business and civil society leaders. At Chattogram Port, Ambassador Christensen marked the arrival of nearly 60,000 metric tons of high-quality U.S. wheat, underscoring burgeoning trade between American farmers and Bangladeshi agricultural importers. He then met with U.S. agricultural commodity importers to champion the superior quality of American agricultural products and tackle trade and shipping challenges, a press release said.

Ambassador Christensen toured BSRM Steel and Parhartali Textile Mills—both long-time users of U.S. inputs—underscoring how American innovation contributes to Bangladesh’s industrial growth. At Premier University, Ambassador Christensen visited the new American Corner and met with Mayor Shahadat Hossain and Premier University Vice Chancellor S. M. Nasrul Quadir.  He also spoke with alumni of U.S. government exchange programs.

At the Chattogram War Cemetery, Ambassador Christensen honored the legacy of American Pilot Officer William B. Rice, who died in World War II.  Ambassador Christensen’s visit further strengthened the U.S.-Bangladesh partnership by deepening cooperation on economic growth, commercial opportunities, and security with the people of Chattogram.
