North South University (NSU) hosted the inauguration of the Bangladesh Society for Modeling and Simulation (BSMS) on 01 February 2026 at its Department of Mathematics and Physics. With the aim of further institutionalizing and organizing simulation-based research, academic practice, and industrial activities in the country, the society has officially begun its journey at the university, a press release said.
BSMS will function as a national chapter of the Asian Society for Modeling and Simulation (ASIASIM). ASIASIM is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the development, research, and practical application of modeling and simulation technologies across Asia.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Professor Mamun Molla, Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Physics at North South University. More than 100 guests attended the event, including faculty members, researchers from leading public and private universities, and professionals from relevant sectors.
By unanimous consensus of those present, a 15-member ad hoc committee was formed for a one-year term. Professor Dr. Mohammad Monir Uddin of the Department of Mathematics and Physics at North South University was appointed as the Convener of the newly formed committee. Associate Professor Dr. Mahtab Uddin of the Institute of Natural Sciences at United International University (UIU) was nominated as the Member Secretary.
Invited academicians and researchers spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of modeling and simulation technologies. The speakers included Professor Dr. Abdul Hakim, Professor Babul Hasan, Professor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Professor Dr. Abdul Alim, Professor Dr. Jalal Uddin, Professor Nasrin Akter, Professor Dr. Mahtab U Ahmed, Professor Dr. Osman Gani, Professor Dr. Humayun Kabir, Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra, and Dr. Alamin, among others.
The speakers expressed optimism that BSMS would emerge as a strong academic and research platform in the future. They emphasized that it would play a significant role in building effective bridges between educational institutions and industry at both national and international levels, thereby contributing to the country’s overall technological advancement.
The organizers stated that this initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter in modeling and simulation research in Bangladesh. The society aims to expand and enhance the effective use of these technologies, particularly in education, healthcare, engineering, and public policymaking. It was confidently stated that the journey of BSMS would help elevate Bangladesh’s science and technology research to global standards.
