BRAC University explores ties with World Federation of Consuls

BRAC University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) recently to explore opportunities for cooperation in education, research, development, and knowledge exchange in the field of international studies, a press release said.

The MoU signing ceremony was held on BRAC University’s Merul Badda campus last Saturday (31 January 2026). The MoU came into effect on 1 February 2026.

The FICAC is an international network of consuls from different countries working as a platform for cooperation and communication among its members.

The federation supports connections in areas such as education, culture, and institutional engagement and provides opportunities for members to share experiences, expand international contacts, and explore collaboration with organizations and universities.

Under this MoU, the two institutions agreed to pursue joint academic activities to support scientific and scholarly cooperation. These include visits by faculty members or representatives, joint seminars, workshops, conferences, and other academic events.

The MoU also creates opportunities to share information related to education and research in international studies, promote BRAC University’s postgraduate programs in different countries, and introduce students and alumni to the initiatives and achievements of FICAC.

The cooperation also supports the development of scientific initiatives between the two institutions.

Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor; Ariful Islam, Treasurer; and Dr. David Dowland, Registrar, signed the MoU on behalf of BRAC University.

On behalf of the FICAC, the MoU was signed by Hon. Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos, President of the FICAC, Hon. Aykut Eken, President Emeritus of the FICAC, and Hon. Asif A. Chowdhury, Vice President of the FICAC.

Hon. Fatma Gönül Oray-Eken, Member of the Board of Directors and Honorary Consul of St. Kitts & Nevis, was also present at the event.

During the event, a presentation on the academic programs, research activities, and international engagements of BRAC University was delivered by Dr. David Dowland, Registrar.

Treasurer Ariful Islam highlighted the mission and vision of the university, while Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar reaffirmed BRAC University’s commitment to contributing to leadership and collaborations across the Global South.

After the ceremony, the vice-chancellor gave the visiting delegation a tour of the university campus. Members of the delegation expressed appreciation for the university’s academic environment, campus facilities, and educational activities.
