EBL partners with Thalassemia Foundation to aid underprivileged patients

Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has partnered with Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation (BTF) to strengthen healthcare support for underprivileged patients suffering from thalassemia, a press release said.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Ziaul Karim, Head of Communications and External Affairs at EBL, recently handed over a cheque to Professor Dr. Syeda Masooma Rahman, Vice-Chairman of BTF, at the bank’s head office in Dhaka.

Under this partnership, EBL will support the modernization of BTF’s medical facilities by funding advanced equipment such as refrigerated centrifuges, platelet incubators and agitators, plasma freezers, and whole blood refrigerators. The initiative aims to enhance blood storage and transfusion services for thalassemia patients.

Professor Dr. Syeda Masooma Rahman said the partnership would help improve treatment facilities and offer renewed hope to affected children and their families. Ziaul Karim noted that supporting life-saving healthcare infrastructure reflects EBL’s commitment to sustainable community development.

Thalassemia is one of the most common hereditary blood disorders in Bangladesh, with an estimated 6–12 percent of the population carrying the gene.

The ceremony was attended by A B M Zunaed, Head of HR and Operations; C M Omar Faruq Niloy, Manager, Accounts and Finance; Momotaj Jahan Koli, Assistant Manager, Donor Relations and Partnership Development from Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation; and Md. Maskur Reza, FCA, Head of Business Information Systems; Md. Safiqul Islam Zahid, Head of Financial Operations and Control; Chowdhury Bahar Wadud, Head of Remittance, Treasury, FIs and Offshore Banking of EBL, among others.
