EU observes International Mother Language Day

Eastern University(EU) observed Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day with due respect and solemnity. A procession was brought out on the university campus, followed by the laying of floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar built on the campus premises. Faculty members, students, and university officials gathered together at the Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the language martyrs by offering flowers in their memory, a press release said.

The Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, addressed the program as the President, highlighting the significance of the Language Movement and the rich heritage of Bangla language and culture. Speeches were also delivered by Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar; Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Humayun, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and Md. Rofiussan, Head of the Department of English. The speakers emphasized the importance of International Mother Language Day, the cultural and historical value of the Bangla language, and the need to promote linguistic diversity and unity. They also discussed the significance of the Language Movement and the achievements gained through the sacrifices of the language martyrs. At the end of the program, a prayer was conducted by Md. Omar Faruk, Lecturer of the Department of Law, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs.

Dr. Abu Bin Ihsan, Head of the Department of Pharmacy, delivered the welcome speech and served as the Convener of the program. The event was conducted by K. M. Monirul Islam, Deputy Director of Student Affairs and Placement.
