An Iftar and Doa Mahfil was held at the BGMEA Complex yesterday (Sunday) at the initiative of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in honor of labor leaders engaged in the garment industry, a press release said.
The program, chaired by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, was attended by more than a hundred top leaders and representatives of labor federations/organizations. Also present from BGMEA were Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan, Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Director Faisal Samad, Director Sheikh Hossain Mohammad Mostafiz, Director Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Director Mohammad Sohel and former Director A.N.M. Saif Uddin.
BGMEA Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim delivered the welcome speech at the event. BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, in his speech, mentioned the industry-friendly stance of the current government and said that the government has given top priority to the ready-made garment industry. Close cooperation between BGMEA and labor organizations is essential to maintain a healthy and stable labor environment in the industry.”
Highlighting global adversities, he further said that amid rising production costs and energy crisis, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have put our industry at new risk. If oil prices and transportation costs increase, this crisis will intensify. Owner-labor unity is the need of the hour to deal with this global shock.
Lutfun Nahar Lata, General Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Garments Workers’ Party, spoke on behalf of the workers.
