With the aim of expanding the use of renewable energy and building a sustainable campus, Daffodil International University and Paramount Group have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to implement a solar power project called OPEX Solar Project with a capacity of 3.4 MW. This initiative will make significant progress in the use of environmentally friendly energy through the use of roof tops in university buildings and halls, which will be implemented within the next four months,  a press release said.

Today on  April 6, 2026, at the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signing ceremony organized at the Daffodil International University campus situated at Daffodil Smart City in Reulia, Savar, Paramount Group Chairman Sakhawat Hossain, Daffodil University Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Treasurer Dr. Hamidul Haque Khan and Paramount Group Director (Finance) Zahidul Abedin and Company Secretary Rabiul Islam were present. On behalf of Daffodil International University, Registrar Dr. Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali and on behalf of Paramount Group, Managing Director Sadab Hossain signed the agreement. Deans of various faculties, heads of departments and senior officials of both institutions were present at the event.

This project, implemented under the leadership of Professor Dr. M. Samsul Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Daffodil University, and under the guidance of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan has set an example of an effective and sustainable partnership between Daffodil International University and the Paramount Group.

This project, implemented under the OPEX model, will enable the university to avail solar power facilities without any initial investment. As the price of electricity per unit is fixed at 7 taka, there will be significant savings in electricity costs and the cost will remain stable in the long run

This project will reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to planting about 60,000 trees. In addition, it is considered a completely eco-friendly initiative as it does not use any water or emit harmful gases. Through the net metering facility, there will be an opportunity to earn credits by supplying excess electricity generated to the national grid, which will help further reduce the university’s electricity costs At the same time, the project will save foreign exchange by reducing dependence on imported energy.

The initiative will also make a significant contribution to education and research. It will serve as a practical learning platform for students, where they will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in renewable energy technologies.

The university authorities said that this initiative is the largest among public and private universities and the first undertaken by a private university, is not just an agreement; but an important step towards building a sustainable, environmentally friendly and self-reliant future.
