The meeting, held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, was led by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, while BGMEA Vice President Md.  Shihab Uddoja Chowdhury, Director Majumder Arifur Rahman, Director Rumana Rashid and Director Mohammad Sohel.

The meeting discussed in detail the areas of cooperation and investment, especially China’s cooperation and direct investment in the modernization of technology in the textile sector of Bangladesh.

In the meeting, the BGMEA President called China a long-standing reliable business partner of Bangladesh and a major source of raw materials and equipment for the garment industry. He strongly urged Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in emerging sectors of Bangladesh, especially man-made fiber (MMF), synthetic fiber and technical textile sectors. The President mentioned that the huge annual import market of 8-9 billion dollars for woven fabrics in Bangladesh is a unique opportunity for Chinese investors.

He further said that Chinese entrepreneurs can invest in these promising sectors individually or in joint ventures, where all kinds of strategic cooperation will be provided by BGMEA.  It is also worth noting that due to the signing of the EPA agreement between Japan and Bangladesh, Chinese businessmen will get duty-free market benefits for exporting products to Japan by investing in Bangladesh individually or jointly.

The BGMEA President also laid special emphasis on technology transfer between entrepreneurs of the two countries. He called for regular technical training and knowledge sharing initiatives to increase skills, especially in modern technologies such as digital printing and synthetic fabrics. In addition, discussions were held on making the Bangladesh garment industry more sustainable by utilizing China’s pioneering experience and expertise in setting up eco-friendly dyeing factories.

In the meeting, it was requested to provide the BGMEA with the profiles and production capacity information of the companies included in the delegation in order to establish direct business links, so that BGMEA can disseminate the information among its members.

It is worth noting that the Chinese delegation visiting Dhaka has visited dyeing and printing factories in Bangladesh. BGMEA has assured to provide all-round cooperation in this regard.

Finally, both sides expressed their firm commitment to work together for the sustainable development and mutual prosperity of the textile and garment industries of the two countries.
