Govt urges tax officials to work honestly for country’s welfare

The 46th meeting of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the FBCCI was held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel today, April 29, under the joint initiative of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the FBCCI, a press release said.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the meeting. Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present as the special guest. Representatives of various important organizations of the country’s business sector also participated in the meeting.

Senior Vice President of REHAB Abdur Razzak urged tax officials to work for the welfare of the country and the people with honesty and ethics.

He said that ensuring transparency in the revenue collection process and maintaining tolerant behavior towards taxpayers will further improve the business environment. At the same time, he called for modernization of tax administration and providing harassment-free services. He spoke about reducing registration costs as per the proposal given by REHAB to the NBR.  The Senior Vice President of REHAB also mentioned that a proper and fair tax system plays an important role in strengthening the foundation of the country’s economic development.

Leaders of various chambers and associations including BGMEA and BKMES delivered speeches at the event. The speakers emphasized on the country’s revenue system, the current situation of business and trade, simplification of tax policies and creating an investment-friendly environment.

The participants in the meeting expressed hope that the country’s economic development and revenue collection will be further accelerated through joint initiatives of the government and private sectors.
