President of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin is most likely to leave Dhaka on May 9 on a week-long visit to the United Kingdom to avail himself of better treatment, sources in Dhaka and London said.
This is expected to be first maiden visit by President Mohammed Shahabuddin since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through a mass uprising on August 5, 2024.
Though his itinerates are not finalized as yet, sources said he will be accompanied by his wife during the visit to London.
The President will stay at a hotel in London during his visit to the UK.
As of early May 2026, Mohammed Shahabuddin is serving as the 22nd President of Bangladesh. Sworn in on April 24, 2023, he continues to perform official duties, including official visits, hosting dignitaries, and administering oaths, such as to the new cabinet following the February 2026 elections.
