PM committed to ensuring students’ good health, quality education: Mahdi Amin

DHAKA : Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin today said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to ensuring student’s good health and quality education.

He said this while a delegation led by Bangladesh Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) Simone Parchment met him at the Prime Minister’s Office here, according to a PID release.

The adviser said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been highlighting the importance of the “Mid Day Meal” programme for many years in his election manifesto and speeches, as he believes that nutritious food is very important for the mental and physical development of the children.

He mentioned that Begum Khaleda Zia initiated the programme during her tenure as the head of government.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the Mid Day Meal programme undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh.

There was a fruitful exchange of views on various aspects of ensuring quality and nutritious food for the students of the country.

In this context, the representatives of the WFP provided important suggestions based on their experiences.

The meeting also discussed various aspects to make the Mid Day Meal programme more transparent, accountable and effective. Emphasis was laid particularly on strengthening monitoring and supervision and making the upazila-level committees more active and effective.

Deputy Head of Programme Marybeth Black, Head of Supply Chain Catherine Claire, Head of School Feeding Ema Clara Lefu and Senior Partnership Advisor Md. Mohsin were in the delegation.
