BGMEA, IV Decarb sign deal to cut carbon emissions in Bangladesh garment sector

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and IV Decarb Marketplace SL to reduce carbon emissions and increase production capacity in the garment and textile industry of Bangladesh, as well as to ensure the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable machinery, a press release said.

Yesterday, Wednesday (6 May 2026), BGMEA Vice President Vidya Amrit Khan and IV Decarb Marketplace SL Managing Director Jose Manuel Caballero signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations at Hotel Intercontinental. Shah Raeed Chowdhury, Director of BGMEA, Sheikh Hossain Mohammad Mostafiz, and Md. Masud Rana, Business Development Director of IV Decarb were present at the time.

Under this MoU, BGMEA and IV Decarb will jointly promote modern carbon emission reduction strategies among BGMEA member factories and support the adoption of advanced and energy-efficient machinery. In addition, this partnership will work to strengthen and make IV Decarb’s assessment methodology more effective in accurately assessing the positive impact of textile machinery modernization on productivity and sustainable development.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, BGMEA Vice President Vidya Amrit Khan said that reducing carbon emissions is no longer just a matter of environmental goodwill, but has become a key condition for the global capability and competitiveness of the Bangladesh garment industry. Through this collaboration with IV Decarb, BGMEA is committed to showing its member factories an effective and practical way to use modern machinery, increase efficiency and ensure a positive impact on the climate.

Jose Manuel Caballero, Managing Director of IV Decarb Marketplace SL, said, “Bangladesh is one of the most important garment producing countries in the world. BGMEA’s strong leadership in sustainable development makes this partnership very significant. We are delighted to be working with BGMEA.
