The Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) has seized 4 Indian cows in an anti-smuggling operation at the Chapainawabganj border. The operation was conducted at 12:45 am on Monday (May 12, 2026) in Mathpara village of Suryanarayanpur union under Sadar police station.
According to BGB sources, a special patrol team of Jaharpurtech BOP conducted an operation about 4 kilometers inside Bangladesh from the zero line based on secret information. During this, 04 Indian cows were seized from Mathpara village without an owner. The estimated market value of the seized cows is 3,00,000/- (three lakh) taka. After completing the legal process, the cows have been submitted to the Chapainawabganj Customs Office.
53 BGB has seized a total of 12 cows so far in its ongoing operations in the area under its responsibility in May. The combined market value of the recovered cattle is around Tk 20,00,000/- (Twenty lakhs).
Confirming the authenticity of the operation, 53 BGB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, PSC said:
“53 BGB is working relentlessly to ensure border security and prevent any kind of illegal smuggling. There is a possibility of increased cow smuggling on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, which we are fully prepared to prevent. Extra patrols, check posts and intelligence surveillance have been strengthened, especially in remote areas of the border and river routes.”
