North South University (NSU) Law & Mooting Society (NSULMS), in partnership with the Ministry of Land, Government of Bangladesh, hosted the Land Service Fair 2026 and Land Quiz Competition on 18 May 2026 at Auditorium 801, North South University, a press release said.

The event brought together students, legal practitioners, policymakers, and members of the public with an interest in land law, land rights, and the practical workings of Bangladesh’s land administration system.

Land disputes remain among the most prevalent legal challenges faced by ordinary Bangladeshi citizens. The event was designed to bridge this gap by making land services more accessible and fostering basic legal literacy on land rights and regulations. Through the Land Quiz Competition and the accompanying Land Service Fair, NSULMS aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge that goes beyond the classroom and into the communities that need it most.

The program was opened by Ragib Shahariar, President of NSULMS, who noted that land-related issues affect almost every citizen in Bangladesh. He said events like this help reduce the gap between people and basic knowledge of land laws and services.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Md. Hannan Mia, Ex-Chairman of the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and Land Policy Specialist at ALAMS, Ministry of Land. Drawing on his extensive experience in public administration, Mr. Hannan Mia spoke on the digitization of land records, ongoing reform efforts in land administration, and the persistent challenge of improving access for rural and marginalized communities. His address offered the audience a grounded account of where national policy meets day-to-day implementation on the ground.

Following the Land Quiz Competition, Anuwarul Azim Araf secured 1st place and received a tab as the winning prize, while Shrabonti Nag Disha achieved 2nd place and was awarded a mobile phone. Tanvir Ahmed secured 3rd place and received a mobile phone for his achievement in the competition.

Prof. Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer of North South University, attended the event as Special Guest. He remarked that universities cannot limit themselves to the classroom on issues of such widespread public concern, and expressed strong support for NSULMS in taking up land governance as a focus area for student engagement and civic education.

The session was chaired by Prof. Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of North South University, who closed with remarks on the unique role institutions like NSU can play when they work directly alongside the government on issues that shape the daily lives of citizens. He extended his thanks to the Ministry of Land for their collaboration in making the event possible. The program concluded with the award ceremony, where prizes were distributed to top performers in the Land Quiz Competition.

The event once again demonstrated North South University’s commitment to connecting academic learning with real-world impact, and NSULMS’s role as a leading student organization in advancing legal education and civic engagement in Bangladesh.
