Universal Medical College celebrates milestone, opens critical care unit

Universal Medical College, one of the leading private medical institutions in the capital, has completed a milestone (12 years) of its unique and glorious journey in medical education. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, a colorful new arrival ceremony was organized to commemorate this historic moment of entering a new era and to welcome the new journey of the new students of the MBBS 12th batch.
At the same time, in the continuation of the hospital’s modern and advanced services, an expanded ‘Critical Care Unit (15-bed ICU) with state-of-the-art facilities has been inaugurated, which will add a new dimension to the country’s modern medical services.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain was present as the chief guest at this grand event. On the eve of the main event, the Minister unveiled the plaque of Critical Care and announced the inauguration of an era by releasing balloons and pigeons. Present as special guests were Engr. Md. Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Member of Parliament for Narsingdi-5 (Raipura), Prof. Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam, President of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC), Prof. Dr. Nadim Ahmed, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Dhaka University, Prof. Dr. Nadeem Ahmed, Vice Chairman of Universal Medical College Hospital, Engr. Dilip Kumar Pal, and Principal of Universal Medical College, Prof. Dr. Uttam Kumar Pal.

In his speech, the Chief Guest congratulated Universal Medical College on this success story of an era and urged the new students to develop into skilled and humane doctors of the future. This modernization of the Critical Care Unit will play a very important role in ensuring emergency and improved medical services to the general public of the country. The chief guest expressed the hope that Universal Medical College will go far with the slogan MBBS + Humanity = Doctor.

The program was presided over by Preeti Chakraborty, Chairman of Universal Medical College and Hospital and Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI). In his welcome speech, the hospital’s Managing Director Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty highlighted the 1-year journey of this medical educational institution, its achievements and their future plans for the expansion of modern healthcare.

In addition to welcoming the new students, they were given gifts at the program. The speakers expressed the hope that this modern and quality educational environment and improved medical service quality of Universal Medical College will further enrich and accelerate the country’s health sector in the coming days. Professor Dr. AKM Khalequzzaman Dipu, Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of this institution and Joint Secretary General of DAB, spoke on behalf of the teachers at the program. MBBS 1st year students Ayman Akhter and Shifa Deen (foreign student) expressed their feelings on behalf of the new 12th batch students.

The program was attended by invited guests, college teachers and students, intern doctors, nursing faculty, senior officials of the hospital and media persons among others. The entire program was hosted by the renowned presenter Shanta Jahan and its main coordinator was the hospital’s Head of Brand C. F. Zaman.
