DHAKA : The orientation (newcomer) of the 11th batch of MBBS students of the capital Universal Medical College was held. The Central Orientation Program was held in the meeting room of the ministry under the chairmanship of Dr. Md. Sarwar Bari, Secretary, Health Education and Family Welfare Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Nurjahan Begum, Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was present online as the chief guest, according to a press release.
After the completion of the Central Orientation Program, the orientation class for the new students was held on the college campus. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Uttam Kumar Pal, Principal of Universal Medical College, and Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director of the hospital, on behalf of Preeti Chakraborty, Chairman of Universal Medical College Hospital, were present as the chief guests. Among others, the Director (Medical Services) of the Hospital, Brigadier General (Retd) Professor Dr. AK Mahbubul Haque, delivered the welcome speech at the event. The Vice-Chancellor of the Medical College and Head of the Department of Radiology and Imaging, Professor Dr. Md. Wahiduzzaman Bhuiyan, emphasized on the importance of the new students becoming good doctors as well as good people. At the beginning of the event, students and interns of Universal Medical College of different years welcomed the new local and foreign students with flowers. Then, Academic Coordinator Professor Dr. Fazlul Karim administered the oath to the students and the academic syllabus was briefly presented by the Heads of Departments and Phase Coordinators of various departments of the Medical College. At the function, special awards were given to 4 students who achieved honors marks in the MBBS Professional Examination (November 2024) from Universal Medical College – Dheeraj Stanley (India), Sanjida Kabir Oishi (Bangladesh), Sonika Thapa (Nepal) and Wanima Tabassum (Bangladesh). Students and guardians expressed their feelings at the event organized on the occasion of orientation. Then gifts were distributed among the students.
