In 1917, the British government declared Palestine a Jewish state through the Balfour Declaration. In 1948, a state was born in the territory of Palestine, which is Israel. Israel has repeatedly attacked Palestine based on the Balfour Declaration. Which is why the neighboring countries of Palestine consider Israel as a threat to them and they have been involved in wars with Israel many times, but in 2025, Israel was involved in a war with Iran.

Current status (June 19, 2025)

Iraq-Israel bilateral air and missile exchanges

On June 13, Israel launched airstrikes on several key Iranian sites under the name “Operation Rising Lion”—in short, it targeted nuclear facilities, military bases, and top opposition leaders. Several IRGC chiefs (such as Hossein Salami and Mohammad Bagheri) and several nuclear scientists were killed in the attack.

Iranian response

In response, Iran launched at least 400 missiles and 1,000 drones into Israel between June 17–19. On the morning of June 19, it struck various areas, including the Soroka Hospital in Beersheba and Tel Aviv—there were no reports of casualties, but about 240 people were injured.

Israeli counter-airstrikes:

Israel has launched attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, particularly those located at Arak and Khandab.

Border tensions and political declarations:

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Kataz says “Khamenei’s existence cannot be sustained.” Netanyahu and Kataz also announced that Iran’s “tyrants” would pay a heavy price.

Death and injury figures:

At least 639 people were killed in Iran, of whom 263+ were civilians. Israel reported 24 deaths and about 2,345 injuries.

Global reaction

The United States was not yet directly intervening, but Donald Trump had already put the authorization of attacks on the agenda—waiting to disrupt the elections; US forces are deploying forces in the Middle East. European countries and China-Japan are also preparing to evacuate tourists. International leadership (Russia, China, Iraq) has warned.

Reasons of the Iran-Israel War

Old Enmity

Iran and Israel have considered each other enemies for many years. Iran says that Israel is an illegitimate state and they want Israel to be destroyed. Because the state of Israel was established on the territory of Palestine in 1948. They have been dreaming of establishing a Jewish state in Palestine all their lives. As a result, the implementation of which, since Palestine is a Muslim state, has become a threat to them, so they want to establish a Palestinian state by brutally killing Muslims in Palestine.

On the other hand, Israel thinks that Iran is the biggest threat to them in implementing their goals.

Nuclear program

Iran has been working on developing nuclear technology for a long time. They say that this program is for peaceful purposes, such as power generation and medical use.

But many countries, especially Israel and the United States, fear that Iran could develop a nuclear bomb. Israel believes that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, it could threaten Israel’s existence. On the other hand, Iranian leaders sometimes make anti-Israeli statements, which makes Israel even more alarmed. On the other hand, Iranian leaders support Palestine, which is the biggest threat to Israel. They believe that Iran can provide nuclear weapons to Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi organizations in Yemen, which are the biggest threats to Israel. Keeping these reasons in mind, Israel attacked Iran on June 13, 2025. Later, when Iran retaliated, it became involved in the war.

Proxy War

Although Iran does not directly fight Israel, it provides money and weapons to Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthi groups, which pose the biggest threat to Israel. Iran constantly fights an indirect war by supporting these organizations in various ways. As a result, Israel is involved in a war with Iran.

Competition for dominance in the Middle East:

A major reason for the hostility and conflict between Iran and Israel is the competition for dominance in the Middle East. Both countries want to increase their political, military and religious influence in the region. Iran wants to spread the ideology of the Islamic Revolution (especially Shia ideology) throughout the Middle East. To reduce the influence of the United States and Israel and increase the power of Islamic groups. For this, Iran helps its loyal groups in countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen etc. On the other hand, Israel wants to remain influential as a close power of the Western world (especially America) in the Middle East. They want to maintain their security and existence, so that no neighboring country can pose a threat. Both countries consider themselves superior, and this competition creates a situation of war.

Impact of World Politics

The conflict between Iran and Israel is not limited to just two countries. World politics plays a major role behind this conflict. The interests, alliances, competition, and energy and security issues of international powers have made this conflict more complicated. The Middle East has the richest energy resources in the world, and most of these energies reach the world market through the Strait of Hormuz. And the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of Iran, so the aim of many is to reduce Iran’s power and make alliances. The United States is Israel’s closest ally. It provides Israel with modern weapons, security cooperation, and diplomatic support. The United States opposes Iran’s nuclear program and imposes strict sanctions. Since Israel is the United States’ closest ally, and Iran has a conflicting relationship with Israel, if Iran’s power can be reduced through Israel, the power of the United States and its allies will increase further.

On the other hand, Russia and China are Iran’s strategic allies.  They support Iran in countering Western influence by maintaining military, economic, and nuclear cooperation with Iran. World politics plays a powerful role in the Iran-Israel war, not just religious, territorial, or political animosity. The interests of major powers, the balance of power, and geopolitical strategies are intensifying this conflict day by day.

Impact of the Iran-Israel War

There are several impacts of the Iran-Israel War, which are outlined below:

Unrest in the Middle East

The war has basically started over the issue of Palestine. The Jews of Israel wanted to establish Israel on the land of Palestine. But Palestine is a Muslim-majority country that the Jews are trying to establish through various conflicts. But the Muslim-majority countries around Palestine are protesting and getting involved in the war. Since Iran has a hand in world politics in the Israel war, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and other countries may get involved. Hezbollah, Houthi rebels, and other groups may come out to fight against Israel.

Impact on global markets

The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel is affecting not only the Middle East but also the entire world’s economy and market system in various ways. Below is a detailed analysis of it:

Impact on energy and oil markets

The war has led to a significant increase in global oil prices.

Brent crude oil has touched $78–80 per barrel.

WTI oil is also around $78+ per barrel.

Reason – Iran exports a large amount of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital sea route in the Persian Gulf. If this route is blocked, the supply in the global market will decrease and prices will increase drastically.

Stock market and equities

Global markets are risk-off, with Dow and S&P 500 futures down 1-1.8%, Nasdaq down 1-1.5%.

Indices in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and the Middle East also fell 0.5-1%.

India’s Sensex fell 250 points and Nifty fell 74 points in early trade.

Global risk-off mood, with interest rates rising, gold rising and dollar strengthening.

Safe haven asset demand increases

The demand for gold as a safe investment has increased in the global market. The price of gold has increased by about 28% in the year.

Dollar and US Treasury bonds:

The USD is getting stronger and investors are increasingly interested in US bonds.

Currency market volatility:

The currencies of emerging countries are weakening due to the impact of the war.

The Indian rupee, Turkish lira, etc. are losing value against the dollar.

Importing countries are under pressure as the value of the dollar increases.

Impact on transport and trade

ship chartering:

The risk of war in the Strait of Hormuz is increasing the security risks on the sea route. As a result, ship chartering has doubled.

Airline and shipping companies

Shares of companies such as Lufthansa, Air France etc. have fallen by 3–5%.

Impact on World Politics

The ongoing war between Iran and Israel is not just a matter between two countries—it is bringing about major changes in the politics of the entire world. Below is a summary of the global political impact of this war:

The division of world powers

The United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union have openly sided with Israel.

On the other hand, Russia and China, while not directly supporting Iran, criticize Israel and seek to exploit Iran’s position in the Middle East.

As a result, a new kind of tension has arisen between the Western powers and the Russia-China bloc.

The Middle East political map is changing:

As a result of the war, the countries of the Middle East are being divided into two parts:

For Iran: Syria, Lebanon (Hezbollah), Yemen (Houthi), Qatar, etc.

For Israel: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, etc. (although direct support is often hidden).

The Iran-Israel war is not just a military conflict, it is pushing world politics in a new direction. The interests of major powers, the division of the Middle East, the failure of the United Nations, and the anger of ordinary people have all combined to create a complex political situation.

A resolution to this crisis requires impartial international leadership and diplomatic pressure.
