DHAKA : 29 June 2025, Charged Affairs of Pakistan High Commission, Muhammad Wasif paid a courtesy call on Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in Dhaka. He was accompanied by the High Commission's Trade and Investment Attaché, Zain Aziz. The courtesy call was held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. BGMEA Vice President Md. Rezwan Salim, Director Faisal Samad, Director Sumaiya Islam and Director Fahima Akhtar were present in the meeting, according to a pres release.

In the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening and expanding trade relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. In particular, there were fruitful discussions on strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations in the garment and textile sectors, as well as other areas of potential cooperation between the two countries.

The discussion brought up the issue of Pakistan's strong global position in textile production and Bangladesh's leading position in garment production. The meeting discussed the increase in textile imports from Pakistan as well as the export of ready-made garments and accessories from Bangladesh to Pakistan. It is worth noting that Bangladesh has acquired significant capacity in garment accessories production.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan mentioned that Pakistan can meet the needs of its growing recycling industry by importing garment industry waste (textile waste) from Bangladesh. He further said that Bangladesh is the largest jute producing country in the world and there is significant demand for Bangladeshi jute fiber in Pakistan. If Pakistan imports jute fiber, it will be beneficial for both the countries.

In the meeting, both the sides agreed to exchange knowledge to expand trade, send business delegations from both the countries, and work together in exhibitions and workshops.  They also discussed the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier between BGMEA and Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) to strengthen bilateral trade between the two countries. The BGMEA President stressed that active participation of businessmen from both countries is essential for the implementation of this MoU.  Both sides agreed that they will work together by nominating focal points to further boost trade and investment relations between the two countries.
