Dhaka : BRAC bank organised an anti-money laundering (AML) conference on the theme contemporary risks challenges to enhance awareness and understanding of AML-related issues of its officials, according to a press release.
The conference is part of the bank’s ongoing initiatives to keep its colleagues informed and up to date with the latest regulations and best practices of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT).
AFM Shahinul Islam, Head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), attended the conference as the Chief Guest.
Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing director CEO (Current Charge); Chowdhury Moinul Islam, Deputy Managing Director CAMLCO, BRAC Bank, along with approximately 180 senior officials of the bank, attended the day-long conference held at a hotel in Dhaka on July 19, 2025.
Shadril Ahmed, Additional Director, BFIU, conducted session on “Current trends of fraud forgeries including Online Gambling, Betting, Gaming, Trading of Cryptocurrency & FX”. Md. Mosharrof Hossain, Joint Director, BFIU, conducted sessions on “Risk and Impact of Trade Based Credit Backed Money Laundering, Typologies and Trends” and “AML CFT System Check Inspection and Rating”.
Addressing the conference, A F M Shahinul Islam, Head of BFIU, said: “Bankers must remain vigilant to ensure that criminals do not misuse the banking channels. It is imperative to maintain strict compliance with both local and international regulations, including those issued by the BFIU on AML and CFT. By ensuring proper KYC, conducting regular monitoring of customer transactions, and submitting regulatory reports accurately and on time, the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing can be effectively mitigated.” Commenting on the bank’s strong emphasis on the prevention of money laundering issues, Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director CEO (Current Charge), BRAC Bank; said: “AML compliance is not merely a regulatory requirement, it is the very foundation of trust that our customers, regulators, and society place in us as a financial institution. The conference was highly beneficial for the bank employees, as it provided them with an opportunity to become aware of the latest trends and typologies of money laundering and understand their roles in preventing these.
