BGMEA hosts press conference on US tariff reduction for Bangladesh exports

Dhaka : Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) organized a press conference at the BGMEA office on US tariff reduction on Bangladeshi exports, according to a press release.

The press conference was presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and was attended by BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan (Bablu), Vice President Md.  Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Vice President Md. Shihab Uddoza Chowdhury, Director Shah Raeed Chowdhury, Director Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Director Faisal Samad, Director Md. Hasib Uddin, Director Mohammad Abdus Salam, Director Nafis-ud-Daulah, Director Majumder Arifur Rahman, Director Joarder Mohammad Hosne Qamar Alam, Director Asef Kamal Pasha, Director Rumana Rashid, and Director Samiha Azim.  At the press conference, the BGMEA President mentioned that the recent reduction of additional duty on garment products imported from Bangladesh by the US government from 35% to 20% is a great relief for the Bangladeshi garment industry. He expressed deep gratitude to the interim government, especially the Trade and Security Advisor and their team, for this successful negotiation.

The BGMEA President also said at the press conference that there is no room for complacency in this achievement and that the government as well as the industry is expected to continue to provide policy support to enhance competitiveness. He expressed hope that with the combined efforts of industrial owners, government, labor organizations, and civil society, this tariff can open the door to new possibilities rather than becoming an obstacle.
