A seminar on cervical cancer awareness was organized today 21 August 2025 (Thursday) by NSU Model Pharmacy and Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Limited under the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of North South University (NSU). The main objective of this seminar was to increase awareness about cervical cancer prevention and highlight the important role of vaccines in protecting public health, a press release said.
The keynote address was presented by Mohammad Minhaj Hossain, marketing manager of Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Limited. The chief guest was Professor Dr. Deepak Kumar Mitra, dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, North South University.
The session was chaired by Professor Mohammad Hossain Shahriar, Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of North South University, and Dr. Borhan Uddin, Superintendent of NSU Model Pharmacy. In addition, the seminar was attended by university teachers, healthcare professionals, and students.
The seminar highlighted the importance of early vaccination, healthcare and public awareness in preventing cervical cancer. The guests highlighted the seriousness of cervical cancer among female students in the context of Bangladesh. The discussion focused on the transmission and prevention of HPV virus and the effectiveness of Gardasil vaccine. He added that both men and women are infected with this virus. In addition, the eager students were informed about vaccine research and progress, which can significantly reduce the risk of infection and related complications.
At the conclusion of the seminar, speakers called for widespread vaccination and cervical cancer prevention programs through a coordinated effort by healthcare providers, educational institutions, and society.
