BYD, the leading globalnew energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has set a remarkable benchmark through its premium sub-brand Yangwang. The U9 Track Edition has officially set the record for the fastest speed ever reached by an electric vehicle, reaching an astonishing 472.41 km/h (293.54 mph) at the ATP Test Track in Germany earlier this month, a press release said.

The test vehicle is powered by the world’s first mass-produced 1200-volt ultra-high voltage platform, combined with an innovative vehicle thermal management solution designed to optimize performance under extreme conditions on the track. The e4 powertrain of the test car features the world’s first quad-motor platform driven by 30,000-rpm high-performance motors, each capable of delivering a peak power output of 555 kW.

With a total combined power output of more than 3,000 PS, the vehicle achieves a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS/t, setting an industry-leading standard. This powertrain allows the vehicle to generate 1,288 horsepower and 1,680 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds.

Previously, in August of last year, the Yangwang U9 reached a top speed of 375.12 km/h during track testing, and by October, it achieved a speed of 391.94 km/h. These record-breaking speeds surpass the 350 km/h of China’s high-speed rail, offering ordinary people the fastest experience outside of air travel.

About this remarkable achievement, Imtiaz Nawsher, Chief Marketing Officer, BYD Bangladesh, said, “This is not just about the speed, it’s about the future accelerating ahead. This achievement highlights BYD’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and high-speed performance in electric vehicles, marking a new milestone in the global automotive industry.”
