The leaders of diploma engineers have called on the government to take effective steps to implement the 7-point demands of the Bangladesh Diploma Engineering Students, Teachers, and Professionals Sangram Parishad for building a discrimination-free country and developing skilled human resources, while maintaining the provisions of the 1978 and 1994 government notifications for diploma engineers, such as the provision of sub-assistant engineer/equivalent title, rank, and 33% promotion. The leaders made this call during an exchange of views with media reporters at IDEB Bhaban in Kakrail on August 30 at noon, a press release said.

In the exchange of views, the committee formed to make strong recommendations for establishing cordial relations between Diploma Engineers and BSc Engineers in the engineering profession, dividing the engineering workplace into field and desk engineering, preventing waste of talent and achieving excellence in the engineering profession through research, strictly controlling the career change of engineers, and introducing a one-way education system in engineering education.

The leaders called on the students of the University of Engineering and Technology and BSc Engineers to avoid all kinds of mob violence, provocations and obscenity in the interest of maintaining stability in engineering education and the workplace. In the exchange of views, the Diploma Engineer leaders called on the law enforcement agencies and the government to investigate deeply whether there is any evil force behind the ongoing movement of the students of the University of Engineering and Technology.

In the exchange of views, the leaders alleged that the BSC engineers did not limit their movement to indecent and obscene language only, but were continuously engaging in mob violence and physically and mentally harassing the diploma engineers working in various engineering organizations and departments. In this context, they added that on August 25, external mob terrorists, instigated by Assistant Engineer Md. Rokonuzzaman of Sales and Distribution Division-3 of NESCO’s KPI-affiliated Rangpur Head Office, entered the office and created an anarchic situation by shouting slogans in indecent and obscene language targeting the working diploma engineers. Where Assistant Engineer Md. Rokonuzzaman directly led. However, the BSC engineers have filed harassment cases against the harassed diploma engineer officials, alleging mob violence with the malicious intention of hiding the real incident. The leaders called on the government to immediately withdraw the conspiracy case and stop the harassment of diploma engineers. The leaders said that those concerned are wrong if they consider the positive movement of diploma engineers as weakness. Diploma engineers, professionals and diploma engineering student teachers are there to implement any strict program in any situation.

The opening speech was given by the member secretary of the Sangram Parishad, Prof. Md. Imam Uddin. The discussion was attended by Prof. Md. Kabir Hossain, Prof. Md. Akheruzzaman, Prof. Md.
