A delegation from Asia Foundation met with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan at his office to discuss mutual cooperation in the development of Bangladesh’s garment industry, especially in the areas of skill development of women workers and sustainable development of the working environment, a press release said.
The delegation was attended by Asia Foundation Country Representative Kazi Faisal Bin Siraj, Program Director Aini Islam, and Communication and Outreach Lead (Undefeated) Kashfia Kayes.
The meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara emphasized on enhancing the skills of women workers in the garment industry in Bangladesh, developing leadership, and ensuring their overall welfare.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan praised the continuous efforts of Asia Foundation in the development of the garment sector. He said, “The contribution of the garment industry as a key driver of the economy of Bangladesh is undeniable. We are particularly committed to the protection and welfare of women workers. Such cooperation with international organizations like the Asia Foundation will play a significant role in achieving our goals.”
During the meeting, the Asia Foundation expressed its interest in working with the BGMEA in several areas for the overall development of women workers in the garment industry, especially in the areas of skill development training programs, various health and safety programs, training at the mid-level management level, establishment of community-based day care and introduction of circularity in the garment industry.
Both sides expressed the hope that this meeting will further strengthen the relationship between them and create new opportunities for joint activities in the future, which will make the garment industry of Bangladesh more humane and sustainable.
