Shahjalal Islami Bank PLCorganized a financial literacy program at a local hotel in Chattogram City on the 31st August 2025 with the overall support of its’ Chattogram Zonal Officefor increasing social awareness to send income of expatriates through legal channels. The Managing Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC Mosleh Uddin Ahmedwas present as chief guest and the Deputy Managing Director & Zonal Head, Chattogram of the bank RashedSarwarwas the special guestin the program.The main objective of the program was to encourage expatriate Bangladeshis and their families to send foreign remittances to the country through banking channels and to create awareness among them to refrain from transacting through illegal hundi.As a part of the financial literacy programvideo clips were shown to all those present on the harmful aspects of hundi and the need for financial planning at the marginal level, a press release said.
Among others,the EVP & Manager of bank’s Jubilee Road Branch A.T.M. Qumruddin Chowdhury, theHead of the Foreign Remittance Department Mohammad ShakhawatHossain,themanagers of the bank’sother branches in Chattogram region, expatriates and their family members were also present in the program.The program was moderated by Imam Hossain Mahmud, AVP, Risk Management Division of the bank.
In his speech as the chief guest, Managing Director of the Bank, Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, highlighted the significance of sending foreign remittances through banking channels, negative aspects of legally prohibited hundi transactions and the demand for skilled workers abroad.Moreover, the role of foreign remittances in the country’s economy and the contribution of Shahjalal Islami Bank along with the districts of Chattogram in this regard were presented.At the end of the program, gifts were handed over to the guests and the families of the expatriates from the Bank.
