A deep conspiracy to destroy the polytechnic education system

The principal, vice-principal and students of the Polytechnic Institute have termed the 3-point demands of BSC Engineering students studying at the University of Engineering and Technology as completely unreasonable and a deep conspiracy to destroy the polytechnic education system. They said that the government has decided to assign the unified title of Deputy Assistant Engineer for Diploma Engineering certificate holders in order to attract students to polytechnic education, ensure the participation of diploma engineers in national infrastructure development and productivity. Whose main job is to implement field-engineering activities. Diploma engineers have been doing that work very efficiently in various engineering organizations of the government since the independence of Bangladesh. It is not understandable why B.Sc. engineers who are good at research, innovation, and design want to enter this 10th grade post. The teacher representatives expressed their fear that if the demands of the degree engineers are accepted, more than five hundred government and private polytechnic institutes will be closed. Moreover, producing thousands of degree engineers for research from universities and colleges established for the development of science and technology will be a waste. Which is suicidal for the nation, a press release said.

The teacher representatives said that it is a constitutional fundamental right of every employee of the republic to get promotion within a specified period of time based on experience in service life. For good reason, the government in its 1978 notification fixed the promotion rate from deputy assistant engineer to assistant engineer at 33%. Later, due to the creation of sub-divisional engineer posts, the promotion rate has come down to 17%. Even then, there cannot be any justification for canceling this provision of minimum promotion. They said that the issue of using the engineer title has been clarified in BNBC-2020. However, students and degree engineers of various engineering and technology universities are misleading the nation by creating new controversies on these resolved issues, which is not expected. Teacher representatives called on the agitating BSC engineering students to withdraw from such unreasonable demands in the interest of engineering education and stability of the workplace.

These things were said at a joint meeting of the Central Sangram Parishad, principals, vice-principals and student representatives of government and private polytechnic institutes organized by the Bangladesh Diploma Engineering Student Teacher Professional Sangram Parishad at IDEB Bhaban in Kakrail, Dhaka on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Convener of the Central Sangram Parishad, Prof. Md. Akheruzzaman, chaired the meeting, and IDEB Interim Central Committee Convener Prof. Md. Kabir Hossain, delivered the keynote address. Sangram Parishad Member Secretary Prof. Md. Imam Uddin moderated the meeting. More than five hundred representatives, including principals, vice-principals and students of various government and private polytechnic institutes, participated in the meeting.
