Tarique Rahman Returns Home After 17 Years, Greeted by Massive Public Turnout, After nearly two decades in exile, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has returned to Bangladesh, sparking widespread excitement across the country. His homecoming drew an overwhelming response, with supporters travelling from different regions to witness the historic moment.

From early morning, tens of thousands of party leaders and activists assembled along the capital’s 300-feet road, carrying flags and banners. The crowd swelled with anticipation as everyone waited for a glimpse of the BNP leader. That wait ended at 2:05 pm, when Tarique Rahman arrived at the public reception venue.

Women, children, senior citizens and young supporters lined the entrance, greeting him with raised hands, salutes and chants. The area echoed with slogans as emotion and celebration filled the air.

Earlier in the day, the aircraft carrying Tarique Rahman landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:42 am. He was received there by senior BNP leaders. Upon exiting the VIP lounge, he touched the country’s soil with his bare feet and took a handful of earth—a symbolic gesture that moved many supporters.

He then boarded a red-and-green bus and made his way toward the reception stage. Along the route, he waved repeatedly to the crowds, who responded with cheers and applause.

BNP leaders said Tarique Rahman is expected to address the nation shortly, marking what they describe as the beginning of a new political chapter for the party.
