British Council awards 42 English medium students

DHAKA : The British Council celebrated the exceptional academic accomplishments of 42 students from 23 English medium schools across Bangladesh at the British Council Scholars’ Award 2025 programme, held on yesterday  at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Dhaka, a press release said.

The prestigious award recognised students who achieved the highest distinction grades in nine or more subjects in their May/June 2025 Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel Qualifications (O Levels/IGCSE/International GCSE), conducted by the British Council for UK Exam Boards. These remarkable young achievers represent the next generation of bright minds shaping the nation’s future through hard work, creativity, and a passion for learning.

In his welcome speech, Stephen Forbes, Country Director Bangladesh, said, “Today we celebrate the dedication of students, commend their achievements, and appreciate the crucial support of their parents. At the British Council, we are committed to helping young people reach their full potential in both academics and careers. We hope these excellent UK exam board results become a valuable asset in their journey. To those who didn’t reach their goals this time, their efforts matter and will pay off. Wishing all students the very best as they pursue excellence and follow their dreams.”

The event brought together over 200 school leaders, educators, parents, and representatives from the British Council’s 200 Partner Schools nationwide. Distinguished Guest Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Secretary, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, delivered an inspirational address.

A video montage showcased the British Council’s global education impact, featuring success stories of past scholars who have gone on to excel internationally. Maxim Raimann, Exams Director Bangladesh, British Council, then presented an overview of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to make globally recognised qualifications accessible to Bangladeshi learners.

The highlight of the evening was the award-giving ceremony, where the 42 awardees received crests and certificates for their outstanding results. Two award-winning students also shared inspiring reflections on their learning journeys, challenges, and aspirations, receiving warm applause from guests and peers. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Tahnee Yeasmin, Director Business Development, British Council.

Distinguished guests from leading UK exam boards attended the ceremony, including Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Secretary, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka; Sarwat Reza, Country Lead, Bangladesh, Cambridge University Press and Assessment; Abdullah Al Mamun Bin Quddus, Regional Development Manager – Bangladesh & Nepal, Pearson Edexcel; Jannatul Ferdous Sigma, Regional Development Manager – Bangladesh, Pearson Edexcel; and Shahin Reza, Country Director, Bangladesh, Oxford AQA.

The British Council Scholars’ Award 2025 reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to nurturing Bangladesh’s youth by supporting their academic, creative, and personal growth through globally benchmarked learning experiences, reflecting the British Council’s enduring belief in the power of holistic education to build confidence and create future leaders.
