NSU hosts dua, tribute for Khaleda Zia

North South University (NSU) organizes a Dua and Tribute to honor the memory of Begum Khaleda Zia, the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh, former three-time Prime Minister, and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on Thursday, 01 January 2026, at the NSU AUDI 801. The event was attended by faculty members, students, administrative staff, and members of the Board of Trustees, a press release said.

A. Kashem, Member & Former Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU; Mohammed Shajahan, Member, Board of Trustees, NSU; Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer, NSU; Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU; Professor Shazzad Hossain, Dean, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, NSU; Professor AKM Waresul Karim, Dean, School of Business & Economics, NSU; and Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences, NSU; were in attendance. Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, NSU, presided over the event. Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen, Registrar, NSU, delivered the opening remarks.

The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Following this, tributes were delivered by the NSU Deans, who praised Begum Khaleda Zia’s resilience and perseverance. They highlighted her enduring contributions to the nation and requested prayers for the peace of her soul.

Professor Abdur Rob Khan, said, “Yesterday, at Begum Khaleda Zia’s funeral, I saw the country united in a way that I have not seen since 5th August 2024. It is very important that we maintain this type of unity in the future for the upcoming election campaign.”

Mohammed Shajahan said, “This is not the time to engage in political discussions. Instead, it is important to discuss the life of this great leader and the significant contributions that she made to our country. I doubt that we will see a leader of Begum Khaleda Zia’s stature again in our country.”

A. Kashem said, “The display of mourning and grieving at Begum Khaleda Zia’s funeral yesterday was an unparalleled display of love. Begum Khaleda Zia led the country with an established set of ethics and allowed us to believe in a brighter future. She has left behind a historic and unique contribution, and we can take plenty of inspiration from her storied life. NSU has deep and fond memories associated with her. She laid the foundation stone of this university.”

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury expressed deep respect for Begum Khaleda Zia, saying, “Not everyone has the characteristics to be a great leader, but Begum Khaleda Zia possessed them and led the country without compromising any of her morality and ethics. She will be in our hearts for many years to come.”

The program concluded with a prayer for the eternal peace and divine mercy of Begum Khaleda Zia, the late Former Prime Minister and Head of BNP.
