DHAKA : Dr. Nasar Uddin Ahmedjoins North South University (NSU) as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor on Thursday, January 01, 2026, a press release said.
Dr. Nasar Uddin Ahmed was an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Florida International University, USA, with his research focusing on chronic disease, cancer epidemiology, population health analysis, etc.He earned his Ph.D. from Tufts University, his M.P.S. from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, and both B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. degrees from Jahangirnagar University. His work has appeared in internationally recognized journals such as the American Journal of Public Health, Ethnicity & Disease, and Cancer Detection and Prevention.
He is the Founding Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Florida International University and served in the position from 2004-2012. He served as the founding President of the Council of Epidemiology Chairs & Directors (CEC), an international organization specializing in epidemiology, academic environment, and emerging public health issues.
Dr. Ahmed is a four-time recipient of the American Association for Cancer Research & NCI’s Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Award and a 2023 Fulbright Scholar. In 2010, he was inducted into the Association of School of Public Health/Pfizer Teaching Excellence Academy.
