NSU Journalism Department welcomes freshmen at orientation

The Department of Media Communication and Journalism (DMCJ) at North South University organised its Undergraduate Orientation program for Spring 2026 today on the NSU campus to warmly welcome newly admitted students, a press release said.

The orientation program was attended by Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS); Dr. S. M. Rezwan Ul Alam, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Media Communication and Journalism (DMCJ); Dr. Rizwan Khair, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS), along with all faculty members of DMCJ.

The program commenced with an address by Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam encouraged the new students to remain open, engaged, and participatory in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences’ academic and co-curricular initiatives. He urged them to represent and uphold the vision, goals, and core values of SHSS and North South University as a whole.

Dr. Rizwan Khair underscored the importance of aligning individual interests with industry practices alongside academic learning. He noted that a strong integration of theory and practice would be essential for students seeking to build meaningful careers in the media and communication sector.

Dr. S. M. Rezwan Ul Alam, emphasized the necessity of building a healthy and responsible media ecosystem in society and in Bangladesh, highlighting that the key architects of this evolving space would be the critical, ethical, and informed young minds of today.

Students and faculty members were introduced to one another during the session, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Faculty members provided essential guidance and academic instructions to help students navigate their undergraduate pathway, while encouraging them to embrace this phase as the beginning of a transformative journey. Several senior and continuing students also shared their experiences, offering insights and motivation to the new cohort.

The Media Communication and Journalism undergraduate program began its academic journey in August 2022. From Spring Semester 2026, the program has formally commenced its journey as a fully-fledged department, marking a significant milestone in its growth and commitment to excellence in media education at North South University.
