Modern Technology: Blessing or Curse

The present world is a technology-dependent world. Along with the gradual evolution of civilization, technology has also taken new forms, which we call modern technology. In ancient times, when people lived together in caves and forests, they had no advanced technology. They made spears from forest wood and hunted wild animals to survive. They used stones to light fire, rubbing them together to cook food. Later, when humans began farming, they used strong branches of trees to dig the land. Gradually, they started using their intelligence to improve life and make it easier. In this way, through the evolution of civilization, new technologies entered human life. These new technologies made people more civilized, showed them the path of progress, and guided them toward light. When people came out of caves and began living as a civilized society, leaving the forests and settling in communities, distances between people increased. To maintain communication, they started using letters. Through exchanging letters, they shared messages with one another. At that time, life was extremely difficult and dark hunting with risk, struggling to light fire for cooking, having poor agricultural tools, and limited communication. Technology emerged to free humans from this darkness. Today, technology has transformed human life and made it much easier. We no longer need to hunt in forests for food; we can order food from home using the internet and mobile apps. Cooking no longer requires lighting fire with stones; with gas, cookers, and induction stoves, cooking has become easy and fast. Communication has also undergone a revolutionary change. We no longer wait for months for letters. Using mobile phones and the internet, we can communicate instantly from one end of the world to the other. In short, technology has brought the world into our hands, creating what is called a “global village.” Technology is widely used in agriculture, healthcare, and services. In agriculture, technology has made crop production and harvesting easier. In healthcare, advanced technology helps diagnose diseases and provide better treatment. Transportation has also improved greatly, allowing us to travel long distances in a very short time. In education, technology plays an extraordinary role. Students can attend online classes, watch educational videos, and improve themselves. Many students now earn money through online business and freelancing alongside their studies, enriching their skills. People also depend on technology to get news, political information, and knowledge from around the world. However, sadly, just as technology has made life easier, it has also brought serious harm. Excessive use of technology negatively affects our natural lifestyle. People are becoming addicted to mobile phones, computers, and the internet, which damages both physical and mental health. Long screen time causes eye problems, headaches, and sleep disorders, gradually making people ill. Misuse of technology is also creating distance in social relationships. Earlier, people enjoyed face-to-face conversations, outdoor games, and spending time with family. Now, excessive use of social media is separating people from family and society, making them isolated and home-bound. Family bonds are weakening, and relationships and friendships are losing their warmth, leading many people to suffer from loneliness, frustration, and depression. Technology is also a major cause of unemployment. Automation and modern machines reduce the need for human labor, leaving many people jobless and disrupting their standard of living. People are becoming lazy, avoiding physical work, and suffering from various complex diseases. Another major drawback of technology is cybercrime. Hacking, fraud, data theft, fake news, and online bullying are increasing day by day. Many people are deceived in the name of online friendship and fall into traps of false information. Believing in misinformation causes serious personal and social harm and threatens security. In conclusion, technology is a blessing for humanity, but its misuse can turn it into a curse. Uncontrolled use harms physical and mental health and causes moral decline. To escape the curse of technology, we need awareness, ethics, and responsible use. Through the combined efforts of individuals, society, and the state, we must ensure the proper and controlled use of technology while enjoying its benefits.
