BASIS hosts Iftar to strengthen networking in ICT sector

The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) hosted an Iftar gathering at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday at March 11, 2026 with the aim of strengthening collaboration and networking within the country’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector, a press release said.

Ariful Haque Choudhury, MP, Minister to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and Minister to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Foreign Employment, attended the event as the chief guest. Special guests included Md. Amirul Islam Khan, Member of Parliament from Sirajganj-5; and Md. Monjurul Islam, Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-1 were also present at the event.

Among others present were AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony, Convener of BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026; Ferdous Alam, Co-convener; members of the BASIS Associate Committee; representatives of BASIS member companies; leaders from the ICT industry; and other key stakeholders. Participants exchanged views on the current progress and future prospects of the country’s ICT sector.

The programme was chaired by Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Joint Secretary of the Local Government Division and Administrator of BASIS.

Speaking as the chief guest, Ariful Haque Choudhury said the ICT sector has emerged as a key driver of Bangladesh’s economic diversification. He noted that the government would continue to support organizations such as BASIS in promoting the growth of the sector. “The ICT industry has already made notable contributions to job creation, export growth and the development of the domestic technology ecosystem,” he said, adding that Bangladesh has the potential to become a global hub for software and IT services in the coming years.

Highlighting the country’s vast capable young workforce and the importance of public-private collaboration, he said Bangladesh is well placed to meet global demand for skilled professionals, with BASIS leading the ICT sector and the government supporting training, skill development, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

BASIS Administrator Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan said the association continues to work to take the country’s ICT sector to new heights. He emphasised that collective efforts from all stakeholders are essential for sustainable growth. He noted that the Iftar gathering not only strengthened connections among industry players but also created opportunities for collaboration and business engagement among BASIS members.

“The global demand for Bangladesh’s ICT products and services is increasing steadily. BASIS is working actively to position the country’s digital sector more competitively in the international market,” he added.

A H M Rokmunur Zaman Rony, Convener of BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026, expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests and members of the ICT community for attending the event. He said the gathering during the holy month of Ramadan offered an important opportunity to enhance goodwill, cooperation and networking among stakeholders of the ICT industry.

BASIS continues to serve as a key platform for the country’s software and IT services sector and remains committed to supporting the development of a prosperous, technology-driven Bangladesh.
