Major sporting events often drive increased cybercriminal activity, as threat actors exploit fan interest for profit. Kaspersky has supported cyber defense efforts by collaborating with law enforcement and raising awareness among spectators. To enhance safety around AFCON, Kaspersky shared threat data with INTERPOL. The Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence team identified over 2.1 million compromised credentials linked to Moroccan users. There was also a rise in hacktivist activity in late 2025, including DDoS attacks and defacements. Additionally, scam websites were found targeting fans through fake ticket sales and prize offers, aiming to steal personal and financial information, a press release said.

“Major international events present attractive targets for attackers, who run attacks to exploit millions of fans through diverse fraudulent schemes,” comments Yuliya Shlychkova, VP of Global Public Affairs at Kaspersky. “In such scenarios, fostering collaboration between public and private entities is crucial to channel all efforts into combating cybercrime and creating a secure experience for the millions attending these global events. Kaspersky is proud to contribute to INTERPOL’s mission, which unites industry stakeholders in a shared commitment to global cybersecurity.”

Adrian Hia Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky, stated that major international sports events remain high-value targets for cybercriminals, with rising risks including credential leaks, hacktivist intrusions and event-related scams. He emphasized that close collaboration with INTERPOL and local authorities is critical to mitigating such threats. Kaspersky will continue sharing global threat intelligence and supporting public awareness to protect fans, participants and host nations during major sporting events.

INTERPOL-led efforts play a vital role in bringing together and coordinating stakeholders whose involvement is crucial for ensuring the security of major high-profile events. Kaspersky has maintained a positive momentum of joint cooperation projects with INTERPOL. Just recently, Kaspersky joined INTERPOL-led cybersecurity efforts around the major tournaments like the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
