Parliament on Sunday passed a bill setting the maximum age limit for direct recruitment at 32 years across government, autonomous and statutory bodies.

The bill, titled The Maximum Age Limit for Direct Appointment to Government, Autonomous, Statutory Government Authorities, Public Non-Financial Corporations and Self-Governing Bodies Bill, 2026, was placed in the House by State Minister for Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari.

The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.

Under the law, the maximum age for entry into all cadres of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and other government jobs will be 32 years. The same limit will apply to positions in autonomous and statutory bodies where the previous upper age cap was 30 or below 32.

For positions where the upper age limit already exceeds 32 years — such as 35, 40 or 45 — the existing limits will remain unchanged.

The law also leaves recruitment rules for the armed forces and law enforcement agencies unaffected.

Officials said the measure aims to expand opportunities for educated job seekers and support workforce participation.

The bill also replaces earlier ordinances issued in 2024 and 2025, addressing technical inconsistencies that had reduced age limits for some specialized posts. The new law removes those ambiguities while preserving higher age thresholds where previously applicable.
