A total of 12 individuals and one institution have been honored with the ‘Who’s Who Bangladesh 2026’ award in recognition of their contributions across education, culture, literature, and journalism. In the Art and Literature category, fiction writer Rahitul Islam received the award, a press release said.
The awards were presented on Saturday, 18 April, at a ceremony held at Hotel Sheraton in Banani, Dhaka. State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasir Khan Chowdhury attended as the chief guest. He, along with actress Gulshan Ara Akter Champa, handed over the award to Rahitul Islam.
Rahitul Islam was recognized for establishing a stream of technology-based fiction and for engaging young audiences through this genre. For over a decade and a half, he has been writing stories and novels on freelancing and technology. His published works include Sukhobor Bangladesh, Charer Master Computer Engineer, Freelancer Nadia, Outsourcing and Stories of Love, Hacker Himel, Heroes of the ICT Sector Series, The Unyielding Woman of the Call Center, Song of Change, Marketplace of Love, People of Two Worlds, and Badol’s Imprisonment. Several of his stories have been adapted for television dramas and telefilms.
Other award recipients include Professor Dr. G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman in Agriculture, Farida Akter Popy (Bobita) in Arts and Culture, Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury in Education, Ershad Ullah in Entrepreneurship (Male), Kona Alam in Entrepreneurship (Female), Shakhawat Hossain in the Professional category, Alhaj Jasim Uddin Ahmed in Corporate, Shafik Ahmed in Journalism, Sayeed Ur Rob in Sports, Shanti Shree in Social Service, and Shahidul Alam, who received the Lifetime Achievement award. Bangladesh Ansar and VDP received the Institutional award.
In his reaction, Rahitul Islam said he would continue working to make technology accessible to general readers through literature and would focus on writing that contributes to society.
Among the invited guests were Shykh Seraj, Chief Executive Officer of ‘Who’s Who Bangladesh’, Nazninur Rahim, and Editor Lutfun Nahar Taposhi, along with other attendees. ‘Who’s Who’ has been publishing biographical records and presenting recognitions in the United Kingdom and other countries since 1849. In Bangladesh, the program has been organized biennially since 2016, with the objective of recognizing contributions across sectors.
