As university students nationwide navigate the pressures of the academic season, North South University (NSU), through its Counseling & Wellbeing Center (CWC) and Proctor office, jointly organized a workshop titled “Beyond Exam Anxiety” on 23 April 2026 at Audi-801, NSU, a press release said.

The initiative aimed to equip students with the psychological resilience and practical strategies needed to manage high-stakes exam environments. Educational and counseling psychologist and psychotherapist Irafana Samia served as the facilitator of the event, with a CWC psychologist assisting her as co‑facilitator.

The session encouraged participants to better understand their own challenges related to exam anxiety, while also helping them identify their personal strengths. The facilitator explained how the physiological system and its internal coordination play a crucial role in experiencing and managing anxiety. Research-based mindfulness practices, along with other evidence-based management techniques, were shared to help students cope more effectively.

Following the session, Professor Dr. Abdul Khaleque, the proctor of the University, addressed the students, highlighting common maladaptive coping mechanisms and unhealthy lifestyle patterns that can worsen stress. He emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical practices and honesty, particularly during academic challenges. Students were also advised to avoid being influenced by rumors and instead explore and make informed decisions independently. The event marks a continued commitment by NSU to prioritize student mental health, providing a supportive space for students to discuss academic pressure openly. The Counseling & Wellbeing Center plans to continue this series to ensure that mental health support remains an integral part of the university’s academic excellence.
