Md. Didarul Alam (28), a ward-level leader of the banned organization Chhatra League, was arrested red-handed while stealing an auto-rickshaw battery in Karnaphuli Upazila of Chittagong. The incident took place in the Dakshin Shahmirpur Daroga Hat (Jagirpara) area of the upazila on Friday night. Later, the local crowd beat him up and handed him over to the police.
The arrested Didarul Alam is the son of Md. Badsha Mia of Dakshin Shahmirpur village. He is known to be involved as an organizer of Ward No. 7 Chhatra League in that area.
According to local and police sources, Didarul Alam was trying to steal the battery of a local person’s auto-rickshaw on Friday night. At that time, local people caught him red-handed. Later, when the Karnaphuli Police Station was informed, the police quickly went to the spot, arrested the accused Didarul and brought him to the police station. In this regard, Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Alam said, “A case has been filed at the police station regarding the theft of the autorickshaw battery. The accused, who was arrested on charges of theft, was brought to the police station last night. He will be sent to jail through the relevant court this Saturday afternoon.”
