A discussion titled “Pre-Budget Roundtable Discussion” was held in Dhaka today under the joint initiative of Eastern University and the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organizations (FBHRO). Renowned policymakers, academicians, human resource professionals and industry leaders of the country participated in it and provided their opinions and recommendations on the upcoming national budget, a press release said.
Hon’ble State Minister of Planning, Jonayed Saki, MP was present as the chief guest on the occasion. In his speech, he emphasized on inclusive and future-oriented budget formulation and highlighted the important role of human resource development, education and innovation in sustainable economic growth.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr., Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University and Vice-President of FBHRO. Farid Ahmed Sobhani. In his speech, he highlighted the need to strengthen coordination between academia, industry and government in policy formulation in line with the changing needs of the economy and the job market.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Mosharraf Hossain, Founding President of FBHRO. He highlighted various expectations for the upcoming budget, emphasizing on employment generation, skilled human resource development and active participation of the private sector.
The event was attended as special guests and speakers by Abul Kashem Haider, Founding Chairman and Board Member of Eastern University; Professor Moinuddin Chowdhury, Secretary General of FBHRO and President and CEO of SLSD; Md. Kamruzzaman Sabuj, CEO of MyJobs and Director of FBHRO; M. Shafaq Hossain, CEO of CSD Academy and Director of FBHRO; UN Women Bangladesh National Consultant Nilufar Ahmed Karim and Eastern University Registrar Dr. Abul Bashar Khan. The program was moderated by Tasnuva Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, Eastern University, Director of MBA and Director of FBHRO. In addition, department heads, teachers and officials of various departments of Eastern University were present at the program.
The participants emphasized on increasing budget allocation for human resource development, youth skill development, women’s employment, industry-academia cooperation, technology-based employment generation, entrepreneurship development and investment in training activities.
The speakers said that Bangladesh needs to develop a skilled, technology-based and competitive manpower to face the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution and the future job market based on artificial intelligence (AI). To this end, they expressed their opinion that there is no alternative to giving top priority to human resource development in the national budget.
At the end of the event, the participants pledged to continue such constructive dialogues in the future, which will be helpful for evidence-based policymaking and sustainable economic development of Bangladesh.
