Three suspects of JCD leader Shammo murder taken on 6-day remand

DHAKA : A Dhaka court here today granted six-day police remand to three accused in the murder case of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo, who was stabbed to death at Suhrawardi Udyan on May 13.

The accused persons are -Tamim Hawlader (30), Samrat Mallik (28) and Palash Sardar (28).

Shahin Reza, a Metropolitan Magistrate of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order after Sub-Inspector Taufiq Hasan of Shahbagh Police and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced them before the court with a prayer for granting them a 10-day remand.

The IO in his prayer told the court that the accused were directly involved in the killing and need to be interrogated extensively. The accused trios were arrested from different areas of the city on the night of May 13.

Earlier, on May 14, the arrested youths were sent to jail after being produced before another court of the metropolis.

Shammo was a final year student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

Shariful Islam, brother of Shammo, filed a case with Shahbagh Police station in connection with the murder on May 14.
