Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL), a company under Petrobangla, has appointed a consultancy firm to modernize the gas distribution infrastructure in the northern region. To this end, an agreement has been signed between PGCL and the Tumas-Innovate Joint Venture (JV). The signing ceremony was held recently at PGCL’s head office in Nalka, Sirajganj, in the presence of representatives from both organizations. The joint venture includes Turkey-based TUMAS Engineering Consulting and Contracting Company and Bangladesh’s renowned consultancy firm Innovate Engineering and Development. The consortium will provide consultancy services using SCADA and GIS technologies, a press release said.
The agreement was signed by Md. Sahinul Alam, Company Secretary of PGCL, and Engr. Rana Masud, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Innovate Engineering and Development, presided by PGCL’s Managing Director, Md. Zakir Hossain. PGCL Project Director Engr. Debdeep Barua presented an overview of the project, supported by Deputy Project Director Engr. Anup Kumar and Deputy Manager Sheikh Amir Sohel. Also present were Ayhan Kaya from TUMAS, Jubayer Khan, Engr. Siam Ahmed, Amdadul Haque, Sohel Rana, Md. Parvez, Tanzum Ara Sarker, and other officials from the respective organizations.
According to the agreement, the consultancy services under this project will include engineering design, procurement assistance, on-site construction supervision, commissioning, monitoring and control, as well as full management of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) installations. This will enable real-time monitoring of gas supply, reduce system loss, improve operational efficiency and transparency, and enhance customer service quality. The project is being jointly funded by the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), PGCL, and the World Bank. As a result, the northern region’s gas supply system will become more digital, efficient, and loss-controlled, directly benefiting the local population and businesses.
PGCL Managing Director Md. Zakir Hossain said, “This is a pioneering and primary project in the national gas distribution network, jointly implemented with funding from the World Bank, the Government of Bangladesh, and PGCL. The primary goal is to establish an efficient gas distribution system that reduces gas wastage and ensures pressure management. Ultimately, this initiative will significantly enhance operational efficiency and positively impact revenue generation.”
On behalf of the Tumas-Innovate JV, Innovate Engineering and Development CEO Rana Masud stated, “Through this project, Bangladesh will gain practical advantages with the support of modern SCADA and GIS technologies. This agreement enables the development of a technology-driven gas distribution system by combining international expertise with local implementation. We believe such initiatives play a vital role in the country’s development.”
