Workshop on Waste to Asset Project with CTG Factory

DHAKA : Dissemination Workshop on Waste to Asset Project" was held today in the seminar room of the Well Park Residence Hotel in Chattogram. This workshop was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) in collaboration with Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, according to a press release.

Mohammad Masudul Hasan, the Head 3 rd Factory ad interim of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, delivered the inaugural speech. Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal, who is also the Team Leader of the Waste to Asset project and the Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at CUET, presented the findings, novelties, and innovative components of the research project. During the presentation, the environmental and economic advantages of blending paint factory effluent with cement for the construction of roads were brought to light.  The Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology, Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, was present as the chief guest at the event. In his speech, he stated, "The innovative method presented in this research, which utilizes sludge generated in paint factories as a partial replacement for cement in manufacturing paver blocks, can revolutionize not only sustainable environmental approaches but also the economic sector."

Additionally, special guests who delivered speeches included Sonia Sultana, Director of the Department of Environment Chattogram Metropolitan Office; Engr.

Manjare Khorshed Alam, Chairman of the Chattogram Centre of the Institution of

Engineers, Bangladesh; Anupam Pal, Chief Production Officer of Berger Paints

Bangladesh Limited; Muhammad Kawsar Hasan, Chief Works Chattogram Factory

of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited; and A.S.M. Obaidullah Mahmud, Chief

R&D Officer of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited. Participants in the workshop

included executive engineers from the Roads and Highways Department, the Local

Government Engineering Department, the Chattogram Development Authority, the

Chattogram City Corporation, and representatives from the firms producing

construction materials. The workshop concluded with a speech by the Deputy

Team Leader of the Waste to Asset Project, Prof. Dr. Asiful Hoque. The overall

management of the event was handled by Ashim Biswas, Head of Outsourced

Production, Berger Paints Chattogram Factory, and Mohammad Shahidullah, Head

of Production – Resin, Berger Paints Chattogram Factory. The event was moderated by Jushan Abdullah, Research Assistant of the project.
