Bangladesh Bank indifferent to the board of ICB Islami Bank

S M Akash : Although instructions were given to recover the embezzled and laundered money through legal means, the Chairman of the Board of Directors did not take any action in this regard and instead took a stand for the concerned parties. In this way, the Malaysian board is ignoring a regulatory institution like Bangladesh Bank and implementing its own agenda as it pleases. Despite this insult to the country, Bangladesh Bank is not taking any steps to abolish this illegal board. And because of this, there is intense dissatisfaction among the bank’s officers and employees.

Although Bangladesh Bank temporarily appointed an executive director as the managing director of the bank on December 19, relief has returned among depositors in various branches of the bank in the last one month. In the meantime, the bank’s business activities have also improved. Recently, the Malaysian illegal board has been carrying out various illegal activities to regain its authority in the bank. Under his guidance, former company secretary Ujjal and HR head Parvez Yusuf Chowdhury are trying to re-establish their control over the bank. In continuation of this, it is known that Bangladesh Bank has started the process of appointing a recently retired executive director who is experienced in corruption as the bank’s MD. This executive director worked full-time as a corruption associate of Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury during the previous Awami League government and retired.
This corrupt person will operate as the MD of ICB Islamic Bank as per the orders of the Malaysian board. As a result, he will strengthen his own source of income instead of protecting the interests of Bangladeshi depositors and Bangladeshi officials and employees of the bank. It is known that the condition of the bank is moving towards final destruction instead of improvement, and there is frustration among the officials and employees of the bank. The silent role of Bangladesh Bank and BSEC is creating protests among everyone, said the concerned people.
