There have been allegations that the management committee of The Chittagong Cooperative Housing Society Limited held a meeting in violation of a court order.There is extreme dissatisfaction among the members surrounding the meeting held on 25 September 2025.Society Secretary Muhammad Saifuddin said preparations are underway to file a contempt petition in court regarding the matter.
In a response at the society’s office in the city’s Nasirabad area on Saturday afternoon, the secretary said that according to Section 167(c) of the society’s by-laws,the sole power to call a committee meeting is exercisable by the secretary.But the meeting in question was called on a notice signed by President Wahid Malek, raising questions about the legal validity of the meeting.
He further alleged that important administrative documents, including the society’s register, have been kept in the custody of the president instead of being kept in the office. At the same time, letters have been issued approving meetings and various sub-committees,ignoring court orders.
The secretary commented,”These actions are a direct violation of the court’s order and amount to contempt of court.”Those concerned believe that Wahid Malik is actively using Chattogram’s local newspaper Daily Azadi,as a shield to engage in such misdeeds to continue his dominance.Declare yourself as the convener in your own signed document.
As per the decision of the 6th meeting, approval was given to 6 sub-committees including the Recruitment Sub-committee for the appointment of officers/employees at various levels of the society. Where the land purchase and project implementation sub-committee,which is the main repository of the society, was elected as the convener by President Wahid Malek himself, there has been extreme dissatisfaction and strong reactions among several members.
Society members have expressed concerns about the proper spending of more than Tk350 million in the fund.They also alleged that the office’s CCTV footage and registration documents had disappeared before 9:30 am on Saturday.Some elected members of the society have complained that President Wahid Malek has been making decisions unilaterally, ignoring rules and regulations since taking office.Several members said that they were being verbally abused and threatened whenever they expressed their views against the meeting.When asked about this, Abdus Sattar,president of the Chattogram District Bar Association told the reporter that organizing the meeting while there was a court ban amounted to contempt of court.Some members of the society alleged that organizing a meeting ignoring the court’s ban was not only contempt of court,
