North South University’s (NSU) South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG), in collaboration with the Capacity Development Resource Center (CDRC), Bangladesh Resident Mission, Asian Development Bank (ADB), successfully organized a three-day training program titled “Monitoring and Evaluation for Public Policy: Evidence, Accountability, and Learning in Practice” from 26 to 28 April 2026 at North South University, a press release said.

The training brought together senior-level government officials and policy practitioners from various ministries and public institutions, aiming to strengthen their capacity in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), evidence-based decision-making, and accountability in public policy implementation. The program focused on bridging the gap between compliance-based reporting and practical, learning-oriented M&E approaches within the public sector.

Over the three days, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions, case-based discussions, and hands-on exercises covering key areas such as indicators development, results frameworks, administrative data use, monitoring systems, evaluation methods, and adaptive management. The training emphasized addressing institutional constraints and real-world policy challenges in the context of Bangladesh.

The closing ceremony of the program was held on 28 April 2026 at the NSU Moot Court Room, where certificates were awarded to the participants upon successful completion of the training.

The ceremony was moderated by Dr. Rizwan Khair, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS), NSU. Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Director of SIPG, highlighted the importance of moving from compliance-driven reporting to evidence-based learning and adaptive governance in the public sector.

S.M. Ebadur Rahman, Lead Social Sector Officer (Education and Health), Bangladesh Resident Mission, Asian Development Bank, emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and fostering partnerships to improve public sector performance.

The event was graced by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, as the Chief Guest, who underscored the importance of capacity development initiatives in enhancing governance and public service delivery in Bangladesh.

The program was attended by senior government officials, academics, development practitioners, and representatives from ADB, who appreciated the training as a timely and practical initiative to strengthen policy implementation capacity.

The initiative reflects SIPG’s continued commitment to advancing policy-relevant research, professional training, and institutional capacity development in Bangladesh and the wider region.
