Visa, a global leader in digital payments, today announced that Suresh Sethi, Visa’s Group Country Manager for India and South Asia, will be in Bangladesh on May 11th and 12th, as part of his regional leadership engagement across key growth markets, a press release said.

During the visit, Suresh is expected to meet with key stakeholders across the financial ecosystem, including regulators, banking partners, fintech leaders, and merchants, to further strengthen collaboration and support the continued growth of Bangladesh’s digital payments landscape.

Suresh will be accompanied by Sandeep Ghosh, his predecessor, who is currently transitioning from Visa to an external opportunity.

In his role, Suresh oversees Visa’s operations across India, Bangladesh and South Asia, working closely with partners to drive innovation, expand digital payment adoption, and strengthen the overall financial ecosystem. His visit reflects the growing importance of Bangladesh within the regional landscape, as the country continues to advance its ambitions of building a digitally enabled and inclusive economy.

Bangladesh’s payments ecosystem is undergoing a steady transformation, supported by increasing consumer adoption, and initiatives such as the expansion of interoperable cashless payments. Within this context, Suresh’s engagements are expected to focus on strengthening partnerships and supporting the country’s progress toward a more efficient and secure digital economy.

Over the course of his career, Suresh has held senior leadership roles driving innovation and ecosystem-led growth across the financial sector. His career spans India and key international markets, including Africa, Latin America, the US, and the UK.

Most recently, Suresh served as Managing Director and CEO of Protean e-Gov Technologies Ltd., where he led its transformation into an agile, product-led Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) institution. Prior to this, Suresh was the Founder CEO of India Post Payments Bank, where he built one of the world’s largest financial inclusion models by leveraging the extensive network of India Post to deliver doorstep banking services across the country, significantly expanding access to formal banking, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

Earlier in his career, Suresh held senior leadership roles as Managing Director & CEO of Vodafone M Pesa India, Group President at YES Bank, and in multiple regional leadership positions at Citigroup, where he led transaction banking and payments businesses across several geographies.

Suresh’s visit underscores Visa’s continued commitment to Bangladesh as a key market in South Asia and highlights the company’s focus on fostering innovation, deepening collaboration, and supporting long-term economic growth in the country.

Visa has been working alongside its partners in Bangladesh to support this transformation through the introduction of digital payment solutions, including contactless technologies, as well as initiatives aimed at expanding financial access. These include efforts to support farmer-focused payment solutions – the Visa Farmers Card in partnership with Sonali Bank PLC, launched recently by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, and various other programs that promote financial literacy, helping bring more individuals and small businesses into the formal financial system.
