REHAB holds meeting with BFIU

A meeting was held between the leaders of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), a press release said.

The meeting was held on Tuesday (12 May 2026) at the BFIU Conference Room located on the 12th floor of the Bangladesh Bank Head Office. The REHAB delegation was led by the organization’s President Dr. Ali Afzal.

The meeting discussed in detail the responsibilities, duties and compliance related to real estate sector reporting institutions as per the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012 and the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules, 2019.

REHAB President Dr.  Ali Afzal said, “REHAB always respects the government’s laws and policies to transform the country’s housing sector into a modern, transparent and international standard sector. REHAB will play an effective role in coordinating with the BFIU to make member institutions more aware and responsible in preventing money laundering.” He called for reducing registration costs and closing sources of undisclosed income.

REHAB Senior Vice President Abdur Razzaque said, “Establishing good governance in the real estate sector and ensuring compliance is very important to maintain investor confidence. REHAB will continuously work to make member institutions more efficient in reporting and risk management according to the law.”

Other leaders of the REHAB Board of Directors present at the meeting also welcomed the government’s initiative to prevent money laundering and emphasized the need to strengthen necessary training, awareness and coordinated activities in coordination with other organizations including ACC, NBR.

At this time, BFIU officials provided detailed guidelines on various compliance, reporting processes, customer verification (KYC) and risk management applicable to real estate developer institutions. Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun and senior officials of BFIU delivered speeches in the meeting.

Also present in the meeting were REHAB Vice President-2 Abu Khalid Md. Barkatullah, Vice President-3 A. F. M. Obaidullah, Director Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Alhaj Md. Golam Kibria Majumder, A.Z.M. Kamruddin, Captain Md. Shah Alam, Md. Khawaja Nazibullah Chowdhury, M. Fakhrul Islam and Md. Emdadul Hossain Sohel.
